Airborne Terminators

October 22, 2013

Predator drone fires a Hellfire missile
down the slippery slope.

U

SA Today is reporting today that human rights groups Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch are questioning the legality of using airborne drones to target specific subjects, particularly if surrounding civilians are also killed as collateral damage. The phrase “war crimes” has been uttered.

Good luck with that. Uncle Sam only likes human rights when it suits his purpose. If, say, Iran was flying these things over the Midwest and Hellfiring small towns in order to pick off members of Seal Team Six, we'd be screaming bloody murder at the UN. As it is, we just turn the channel back to American Idol and go back to our Cheetos.

A lot of Americans are all in favor of “droning” enemy combatants, and I'll grant you it’s a lot cheaper—in money and probably in blood—to send in an “unmanned aerial vehicle” than a bomb-laden carrier battle group. (I personally believe any politician who wants to go to war should be handed a weapon and put in a closed room with the equally armed enemy leader. We’d see a lot more diplomacy.) But it also makes it too button-punching easy, too tempting, for those in charge. And at the rate military equipment is finding its way into the hands of the police state, it is only a matter of time until they’re used on us. These things have been used to kill foreign citizens; they’ve been used to kill Americans overseas; and supposedly unarmed versions are already flying over America. It is absolutely inevitable that these things will be used by the American government to kill American citizens on American soil. I’m not expecting rockets to be launched into suburban neighborhoods anytime soon, but it’s certainly not inconceivable that, having a drone available (say, flying “Smoky in the Sky” traffic duty) police would call on it to focus on a standoff situation. The next time they’ll have it firing tear gas or nonlethal weapons, because they can. Eventually somebody will get killed, accidentally or otherwise, the cops responsible will be suspended with pay and later quietly reinstated, the courts will decide it’s OK, and there you go. Once the first criminal gets droned, with or without a warrant, the door is open. These things will be flying over Amerika, firing on anyone the State deems a threat. Don’t believe it? See Waco, Ruby Ridge and MOVE, just for starters. If they can’t find an excuse, they’ll make one up. Do it for safety! Do it for the children! And the sheeple will go along with it.
